Queen of the Land Festival hosts Golf Classic
The 54th Queen of the Land Festival will be hosted by Offaly Macra on the 9th-11th of November 2018 in the Bridge House Hotel, Tullamore, Co. Offaly. In the lead up to the Festival, the committee is organising events around the county. The first of such events was a Golf Classic on Sunday 2nd September in Castle Barna, Daingean.
Chairperson of the Festival, Gerard Mahon said at the recent annual general meeting that “This year is going to be very exciting and action-packed, with new and fresh ideas set in motion for this year’s festival”. The Golf Classic is a novel idea by the incoming committee to involve the county as a whole in the Festival and to mount excitement for November, as well as raise funds for the festival. The Golf Classic was a success with winners Thomas Leonard, Sean Leonard, Seamus Gleeson and Noel Leonard from Killoughey winning the competition.
The Festival will move to Dan and Molly’s, Ballyboy next. There they will hold a table quiz on Friday the 14th of September. This will double as Offaly Macra’s county round of Question Time so you better get studying!! The top team from the Macra clubs will progress to the National Finals in Santry, Dublin; but there will be a prize for the overall winners - so everyone is welcome to come along and play!
For more information on this year's festival and the golf classic please contact Gerard Mahon on 085-2471416, email firstname.lastname@example.org, find our website www.queenofthelandfestival.com or find us on Facebook.

Great Turnout for Annual Ballyhoura BBQ
Last Saturday evening, the 8th of September saw a good attendance for our Annual Ballyhoura BBQ. Beforehand, we had our Gaelic Football Tournament which was a great success. Firstly, we had Ballylanders Macra play against ourselves Ballyhoura which we successfully won. We then played Mitchelstown Macra leading us into the Final. Ballylanders faced Mitchelstown which carried Ballylanders into the Final. The final was a very close encounter throughout. Ballylanders running out eventual winners on the narrowest of margins a single point to be presented with trophies at the end of the night and medals to ourselves as Runners Up. Many thanks to Mitchelstown Macra who participated and supported us for the Tournament. All players and spectators who attended the Tournament arrived back at Irwins Bar, Shanballymore for the BBQ, where plenty of food and entertainment was had. During the course of the evening a raffle was held where a great ray of prizes were up for grabs!! Ballyhoura Macra would like to thank everyone who attended this event. All support was greatly appreciated. Well done to all members who volunteered on the night and kept everything running smoothly. Until Next Year!!
This Saturday night, the 15th of September we will be attending the Avondhu Macra Ball in Springfort Hall, Mallow. It will start with Drinks Reception at 7pm followed by a 4 Course Meal and later on there will be music by "The Incredibles". If interested in attending just contact any of our club members.
