Ballyhoura Macra

Another busy week is behind us and another busy week lies ahead for members of Castleisland District Macra. On Friday 15th March our club P.R.O Alan O' Connor takes to the stage in Abbeydorney for the Solo Singing Competition in the County Round of the National Talent Competition (NTC). On St. Patrick's Day our members will be taking part in Castleisland's St.Patrick's Day Parade. Give us a wave as we pass by!

Next Tuesday (19th March) our monthly club meeting takes place in Browne's Bar Castleisland at 8p.m. On Thursday night 21st March our weekly Sports Night continues in Currow Hall at 9p.m. Friday night (22nd March) we head for Keel's Sports Hall where we hope to volley our way to victory in the County Round of Volleyball!On behalf of the club, I would like to wish all of our readers a very Happy St.Patrick's Day!

A huge congratulations are in order for our very own chairperson Billy Hedigan who came out on top in the Mastermind category winning the county title at the recent Cork County National Talent Competition. A huge well done goes to Cathal Walsh O Grady who competed in the Solo Singing category with his superb rendition of ‘Valerie’ and was extremely unlucky not to go through in a very high-quality category. Well done lads!

 

Mullinavat Macra Social Night

Mullinavat Macra are holding a social night on the 23rd of March where we will have Devil The Bit playing on the night . Tickets are €5 everyone is welcome .

Tullamore Macra

Support Boyce Claxton at Mr. Personality in Kilkenny on April 12th-14th. We are looking to organise a bus to Kilkenny that weekend, please get in contact if you want to put your name on a seat! Anyone up for a bit of Uni-hockey or badminton?? We are hoping to get these up and running for a bit of craic during the coming weeks. Get in contact if you're interested!

Offaly Macra 75th years of Macra na Feirme Dinner Dance took place on the 9th March 2019. Thanks to everyone who supported the Dinner Dance and turned out to celebrate 75 years. Well done to Offaly Macra for organising the event.

 

Meath Macra

Meath Macra na Feirme's second annual Parade of Light is coming to Trim this year on Saturday March 16th. This early morning charity tractor run will start at Trim GAA club, do a loop of Trim town and then end back in the GAA. Registration will start at 4am, with the tractor run starting at 4:30am.

Last year's Parade of Light took place on Paddy’s day in Navan and raised €1,060 for Pieta House. Meath Macra na Feirme hope to exceed this amount this year.

Entry costs €20 per tractor, payable at registration. All money raised this year will be donated to SOSAD. Meath Macra na Feirme is asking for farmers in the area to come along on the morning of the 16th to drive with them and support the incredible work that this charity does.

Carbery is 70

Macra's Carbery region is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year and to mark the impressive milestone its 400 plus members are celebrating with a gala dinner.
The region was formed in 1949 and at one point during the past seven decades had 29 individual and very active clubs. Today, it still has the distinction of being the largest, and one of the strongest Macra region in Ireland boasting 13 clubs. They are Ballinadee, Ballinascarthy, Bantry, Barryroe, Beara, Caheragh, Clonakilty, Crossmahon-Bandon, Dunmanway, Innishannon, Kilbrittain, Kilmeen and Mizen.

The anniversary dinner dance takes place on Saturday March 30th in the Celtic Ross Hotel, Rosscarbery. Drinks reception at 7pm.

Kilkenny Macra Hurling/Camogie Competition Announced

Kilkenny Macra na Feirme are delighted to announce that we will be hosting our annual hurling and camogie competition again this year. Please see below for full details of the competition.

Date:13th April 2019

Sign-in Time: 10:15-10:30

Venue: St. Kieran’s College, College Road, Co. Kilkenny

Entry Fee: €30 (Cheques to be made payable to Kilkenny Macra na Feirme and sent to Josephine O’Neill, Ballinaboola, Maddoxtown, Co. Kilkenny by 3rd April 2019 – please specify your club/region on a note included with payment).

There can be multiple entries from each county so we look forward to welcoming teams from your club on the day! However, there is a maximum of 16 hurling entries this year so please get your applications in as soon as possible.

‘Women in Agriculture’ Conference hosted by UCC Macra na Feirme society.

On Thursday, the 21st of March, at 8 p.m. in the Western Gateway Building, University College Cork, UCC Macra na Feirme society will host 'Women in Agriculture', aconference discussing various matters from social issues to success stories.

The conference will be hosted by James Healy, president of Macranafeirme and will include a panel consisting of Marie Martin, Louise Crowley and Mairead Lavery.

Marie Martin is a 4th year UCC student who established 'Martin's Safety Equipment' after an accident occurred on her family farm in Kerry. Louise Crowleyis the current holder of the ‘Queen of the Land’ title and works as a part time farmer. Louise has a vast experience in the agricultural sector and is also a very active member of Macra Na Feirme. The final speaker will be Mairead Lavery,Journalist with Irish Country Living in The Farmers Journal. Mairead has pursued a successful career in agricultural journalism and has published many stories of successful women in the agricultural sector.

There will be Free Admission with Light refreshments served before the conference. Come along and support what is sure to be a very interesting and informative evening listening to these successful women discussing their experiences.

 

Freemount Macra News

We were delighted to host the regional round of NTC on the 22nd of April in Castlemagner Hall. Our club members took part in many competitions on the night including ; mastermind, comedy and solo singing and solo instrumental.

Our next club meeting will be held on Thursday night the 28th of February in Freemount at 8.30. New members always welcome.

The Freemount Macra Annual Tractor Run will take place on Sunday the 7th of April. Great day out for all the family!!

 

Sixmilebridge Celebrating 75 years of Macra

Save the date. Macra turns 75 this year. To mark the celebrations the Sixmilebridge-Kilmurry club will be hosting a BBQ in The Pumphouse Bar, Kilmurry on Saturday March 30th at 8pm. Music and raffle on the night. All welcome with a special invite to former members of Macra.
