Athboy Macra are All Ireland Amateur Drama Champions

Athboy Macra na Feirme claimed the Macra na Feirme All Ireland Amateur Drama for only the second time in the club's history on Sunday 28th April in Rossmore, Co. Cork.

The finals, which took place over two nights, saw a field of 6 Macra clubs staging one-act plays with a maximum time limit of 55mins. Athboy's play "Laundry and Bourbon" by James McClure was staged on the first night of the finals and featured Siobhan Kearney, Orla Kearney and Aisling Daly as three Texan housewives gossiping on a front porch. Athboy also claimed three of the individual awards with Best Actress going to Siobhán Kearney, Best Supporting Actress was awarded to Orla Kearney and the Best Producer Award was given to their director Paddy Cosgrove.

Athboy Macra na Feirme has a long history of performing arts and has been a regular finalist in the FBD Capers Light Entertainment competition with 8 national titles in that competition alone. While they have been regulars in Amateur Drama, particularly at the Semi-Final stage, this is the club's first title in that competition since 1983. On that occasion, the club won for their staging of the third act of Neil Simon's "Plaza Suite".

The club has put together a strong performance in performing arts and public speaking competitions over the last several months. In November(?), Sandy Gallagher claimed the National Impromptu Debating title. The club reached the Capers National Final in January, while a second Athboy Macra Drama team made it to the National Semi-Finals and their Senior Debating team were also beaten semi-finalists in their respective competition. Meanwhile, the club's Impromptu Debating team have an All Ireland final to look forward to on the 1tth May in Kildare.

Nothing compares to MooMonitor+ in latest independent studies

Two new studies show the extremely high accuracy of the Dairymaster MooMonitor+ system for monitoring cows’ behaviour. The MooMonitor+ came first in class for both indoor and outdoor scenarios in the scientific trials. In these studies, the MooMonitor+ was compared against other sensors and specialist round the clock observations of actual behaviour. In scientific terms the results are described by the Pearson correlation coefficient with the studies showing correlation coefficients as high as 99%!

The MooMonitor+ is a health and fertility monitoring system which detects cows in heat and monitors the resting, feeding, rumination, head position and restlessness of each animal 24x7. This system improves farm profitability by decreasing labour requirements on farm, improving reproductive performance and minimising losses due to missed heats, undiagnosed illnesses and general cow health.

This is the first system validated in both indoor and outdoor scenarios respectively by two independent research centres for both rumination and feeding at opposite ends of the world. Both prove the precision of the Dairymaster MooMonitor+ system.

The recent research was undertaken on an indoor herd at Kentucky State University and published in the Journal of Dairy Science. The other study took place on a grazing herd at Teagasc, Animal and Grassland Research and Innovation Centre, Moorepark, Fermoy, Co Cork and published in Animal - A major new International Journal of Animal Bioscience.

MooMonitor has already been proven to be the most accurate heat detection system in the world based on trials carried out by Kansas State University that were published in the Journal of Dairy Science.
