National Leadership Awards 2023

Step 1: Application/Nomination

Candidates may apply for a leadership award themselves, or they can be nominated by another member. The application/nomination form will list six attributes that we consider to be important for leaders within the organisation to have.

  • Mentorship
  • Encouragement
  • Positive attitude
  • Empathy
  • Respect
  • Decisiveness

The applicant/nominator will have to give examples of times they demonstrated three of these attributes within the Macra community. The form will include the option to submit your answers as a voice recording in the interest of accessibility. This form will be worth 30% of the overall mark for the competition.

Step 2: Verification

The TDOs will verify the application forms to ensure that their content is truthful. They will be marked according to a marking scheme. Once they have been marked, the TDOs will hold an alignment meeting to ensure impartiality. Anyone who has enough points based on the marking scheme will be put forward for an interview.

Step 3: Interview

The current President and one TDO will conduct interviews with the candidates. The interview will be worth 20% of the overall mark. The interview will be an opportunity for the candidate to elaborate on the information in the application form. Each candidate will be asked the same questions and the interview will be marked according to a marking scheme. Ten finalists will progress from here.

Step 4: Problem-Solving Session

The 10 finalists will take part in a problem-solving session. In these sessions, they will have to showcase their leadership and teamwork skills. This session will take place on the same day as the National Training Day, which is set for this year on October 1st in the West County Hotel in Ennis. This will be judged by the same judges who will judge the final interview and will be worth 40% of the overall mark. Again it will be marked with a marking scheme.

Step 5: Interview

The final part of the competition is an interview which will be held on the same day as the National Training Day, along with a banquet dinner. All ten finalists who took part in the problem-solving session will be interviewed. The candidates will be given the opportunity to discuss some of the things they have done within the organisation, and they will be asked some questions about it by the judges.

Step 6: Announcing the Winners

All 10 finalists will receive a President’s medal, and 1st, 2nd and 3rd place will be awarded. The winners will be announced at a banquet on the evening of our national leadership training day on September 23rd in Athlone.

The closing date for receipt of entries is Fri Aug 18th at 9pm
