Macra na Feirme announce Dara Killeen as the 2020 FBD Macra Young Farmer of the Year

Live on RTE Radio1 Countrywide this morning, Damien O Reilly announced the 2020 FBD Macra Young Farmer of the Year.


This morning, Saturday 28th live on Countrywide, Damien O Reilly announced the Young Farmer of the Year Winner as Dara Killeen, a dairy farmer from Co. Galway. Dara is farming a dairy enterprise in Meelick Co Galway in partnership with his father. They are new entrants to dairy farming since 2017. They are a focus farm for Aurivo, whom they supply their milk to. Dara and his father milk 150 high EBI crossbred cows.

“It is a huge honour for me and my family to be awarded. I was lucky to take over the farm at a young age and it is great to reward the faith my parents have put in me”, said Dara, the 2020 Young Farmer of the Year Winner.

“Dara demonstrates all the best qualities of a young farmer, progressive, environmentally conscious and quality focused. Each contestant throughout the competition has instilled in me that the future of farming is indeed bright”, said Macra National President Duffy.

“We hope that these awards inspire the next generation of farmers to believe in themselves and to continue to build their farm businesses for the future which will make us proud on a global stage”, said John Cahalan Chief Commercial Officer at FBD.

Tim Cullinan, President of the IFA acknowledged the importance of our young farmers, “The lifeblood of any sector is the young people coming in and bringing in fresh thoughts and fresh ideas to the sector”.
